all right so I'm going to walk you through a little bit about what the incentives are and how they work now specifically I'm speaking about Pennsylvania today for the state incentive the federal federal incentive that I will talk about applies to everybody in the United States now when we purchase a solar system and just to be clear this is only if you purchase a solar system we have two incentives that we are eligible for the first is a 30% federal tax tax credit all right what this means the federal government will pay for 30% of your solar system how this works and I'll just use round numbers let's say a solar system cost $50,000 that means the federal government will pay for $115,000 of your solar system now how you get that money depends on how you pay your taxes most homeowners are W2 employees what that means is they're getting taxes taken out of their check every other week when they get paid at the end of the year they've paid a certain amount in federal taxes now let's say for round number sake you had paid $25,000 in federal taxes that year now normally you'll get your little refund for $1,000 from the federal government party time I guess and then the federal government keeps that other $24,000 to do all the great things our government does for us said sarcastically the way the federal tax credit works you would get your normal thousand refund plus that $115,000 to put towards your solar so you would got a total of $16,000 back so hopefully that makes sense now on the state level we have a program called srex srex is an acronym for solar renewable energy credits the way these work when you own a solar system every time that system produces 1,000 kilowatt hours you get a certificate and that certificate is a reward to you for producing clean energy a common misconception is that you're actually selling power that's not a thing you can produce a th000 kilowatt hours and use it you're just getting that certificate as a reward for producing clean energy now the power companies will buy these certificates from you to them it is a pollution tax because they are the worst polluters ever now in the state of Pennsylvania they have passed several bills to bring the value of these up they want you to look at a solar savings plan and think oh this makes sense this is pretty awesome now the average homeowner earns around $400 a year and that will scale up and down depending on how much power the system is producing and we walk every homeowner through hey your system is going to produce x amount of power per year you will get y number of certificates and this is the value of that now to be clear this is real money it's not a credit on your bill you literally pick check her direct deposit my wife's a weirdo and she wanted checks [Applause] [Music] ...
